A. Lange & Söhne is a German maker of high-end mechanical watches based in Glashütte, Saxony. Ferdinand Adolph Lange set up the firm in 1845, helping to turn the town into a centre of precision watchmaking. After the Second World War the company was expropriated and merged into East German state industry. In 1990 his great-grandson Walter Lange, working with Günter Blümlein, re-established the name, and a first collection followed in 1994. The brand is known for hand-finished movements in untreated German silver, outsize date displays and modest annual output. It has belonged to Richemont since 2000.
